YouTube and classroom



The following article discusses the history of YouTube, the influence of YouTube on public speaking today, and how YouTube can be used to improve the public speaking curriculum. The study asked 77 students attending a language course at Daytona Beach College (DeLand, Florida) about using YouTube technology in the classroom.

By the spring of 2006, YouTube had become the leader in online video with 29% of the US multimedia entertainment market. YouTube videos make up 60% of all videos viewed online. . . This site specializes in homemade comic book videos which are usually two minutes long that are generated by users. YouTube is used for short entertainment or as a viewer with a broadband computer connection at work or at home. (Reuters, 2006)

In June (2006), 2.5 billion videos were viewed on YouTube. More than 65,000 videos are uploaded to YouTube every day. According to Nielsen/NetRatings, YouTube has nearly 20 million unique monthly users. (Reuters, 2006) Robert Hinderleiter, Kansas State University, develops a compelling video story on YouTube.com.
